Heretaunga Boating Club - Co-work Space

The goal with this project and design was to create a co-working space that combines the concepts of co-work and wellness, responding to several of the components that make up wellness: physical, mental, social, spiritual and environmental. .

Existing Site

The conceptual design is based on the wind phenomena discovered on-site. Due to the placement of the site, Heretaunga Boating Club, on the shoreline of Pito-one, the structure is exposed to the strong Wellington winds. Drawing inspiration from the wind patterns, the objective was to create a design that ties back to its surroundings, the land, wind and ocean.

One of the key design solutions came in the form of increasing the felt precense of the wind in the interior spaces. The space was opened up to the wind in the East-West direction, avoiding the main wind directions, North and South. A moveable curtain was included as a key interior intervention, as the moving fabric reinforces the sense of moving air in the space. As the curtain is fixed to a rail in the ceiling, it can be adjusted as needed by the occupants of the space. This creates a dynamic space that shifts “with the wind
